The Avengers (liveblog) [x]
I love the build-up to this moment, but nothing can actually compare with Thor casually hauling Loki up out of the seatbelt straps, grabbing him by the underside of his jaw, and carting him off out of there. This is legitimately the most satisfying and excellent reunion scene that I’ve ever seen in any fictional work, nothing has sent me into shipper overdrive as hard as this scene did.
To this day, I can’t watch it and not have an instant barrage of feelings about every second of it. I am so completely here for angry Thor who tears through this scene like the thunderstorms that follow him around, I am here for the way he hauls Loki out of there with one hand, the sheer power of big brother Thor who is furious with Loki, who doesn’t give a shit about these mortals, who swats them away like flies, and zeroes in on Loki. I am just so completely here for Thor bringing the thunder and the storm in this scene, while Loki gets swept up in it.
I can’t watch this scene and not think of how Thor must fuck, the way he would shove Loki where he wants him and then drive into him hard and heavy, the way it pushes the breath from Loki’s lungs just as Thor’s grabbing him up out of the straps and flying off with him and landing him on his back does. Thor is inescapable here, there’s nowhere for Loki to go, there’s no resisting the heavy arm that reaches out for him and pulls him in close.
The way Thor touches him is entirely intimate as well. He could have grabbed Loki by the shoulder or by the arm, there are a dozen places that Thor could have grabbed him, but he chose to grab him by the jaw, that way Loki had to look him in the eye, he couldn’t avoid Thor’s gaze and everything that was there. Loki had to really look at him and see the hurt and the anger there, that Loki would be so cruel to them all, that he would have let go of Gungnir, that he would lie about having survived it, that he would hurt these people on Midgard. He would have to see the anger that his childish antics had wrought.
And, oh, that look on Loki’s face when he sees Thor for the first time. That, too, made me a shipper almost instantly. That is not the look of someone who is in control of his feelings, that is very much the look you get when you think you’re prepared to see your ex, but then they walk in the door, so much bigger and brighter and more intense than you remember them. That is the look you have on your face when you thought you were ready to handle the feelings, but, oh, shit, you really were not, because everything just flooded right back into you at the first sight of them.
That is the look of a little shit who just had the most intense bursting of feelings about Thor coming to get him and what Loki would have to face for it.
p.s. Holy crap, every moment of that scene I paused on, once Thor grabbed Loki, was just… that was pretty fucking sexualized, for real.
